1. “Orange Roughy” by Damian Cazaly. 61cm x 91cm. Acrylic and Aerosol on Canvas. $790. In the 1970’s, fishermen from Australia and to a lesser extent, New Zealand discovered shoals of a little-known fish living at a depth of about 800 metres on their continental shelves. They were known as Orange Roughy, they were delicious and they existed in huge numbers. In no time at all, fishing fleets were hauling in 40,000 tonnes of roughy a year. Then Marine Biologists made some alarming discoveries. Roughy are extremely long-lived and slow maturing. Some may be 150 years old; any roughy you have eaten may well have been born when Victoria was Queen. Roughy have adapted this exceedingly unhurried lifestyle because the waters they live in are so resource poor. In such waters, some fish spawn just once in a lifetime. Unfortunately, by the time this was realized the stocks had been severely depleted. -Bill Bryson ‘A Short History of Nearly Everything’

25. “Mount Jukes Lookout” by Neil Tomkins. 40cm x 40cm. Acrylic on Canvas. $660. This work was an experiment at first. I’ve never painted snow so these are my first snow paintings and are rather different to a lot of my work. I really enjoyed painting this snowman that I saw on the side of Mount Jukes Road lookout on a very snowy morning driving to some places unreachable without 4×4.
26. “Mount Jukes Road in Winter” by Neil Tomkins. 40cm x 40cm. Acrylic on Canvas. $660. This is from the same drive as the snowman work on was a really beautiful stretch of road that I wanted to reference. This work and the snowman piece could easily be a diptych. The main aim of this work was to put it together in layers with specific reference to the layers that build during the snowy season. Maybe this is reflected in the complexity of Queenstown’s inhabitants as well.

Ink on Paper. $3,500. “If Apple, Facebook, Google, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat are gradually chipping away at our ability to control our own minds, could there come a point…at which democracy no longer functions?…Will we be able to recognize it, when and if it happens?
